Air conditioning is the treatment of air to alter its temperature, cleanliness, humidity or fresh air content. In most instances air conditioning is needed for reasons of comfort – to keep a room environment at a constant temperature and filter out airborne smoke and dust particles. However, in other situations, air conditioning is needed to cool "process" equipment, such as a computer server.

When air conditioning is required, great care should be taken to make the correct selection of equipment.
